Anticipation grows as The five regional champions vie for a spot in the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
The past few weeks in international women’s cricket have been exhilarating, especially for the teams eyeing a spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
the road to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Much like the 2023 World Cup, the 2024 edition will feature ten competing teams. Eight of these teams have already secured automatic qualification. These fortunate eight include the top six finishers from the 2023 World Cup: Australia, India, South Africa, England, New Zealand, and the West Indies. The remaining two auto qualification slots go to Pakistan, ranked next in the T20 rankings, and Bangladesh, who earned their place as the host nation.
The final two spots in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be decided through a global qualifier scheduled for 2024. To compete in this qualifier, teams must perform well in their respective geographic regions.
ReGIONAL Qualifiers
In 2023, the ICC confirmed the qualification pathway with five regional qualifiers: Americas, East Asia Pacific, Asia, Europe, and Africa. These qualifiers were open to cricket-playing countries that are associate members of the ICC.
Four of the regional qualifiers, which serve as pathways to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Global Qualifier, have already concluded, with six teams securing their positions.
Americas Qualifier – Concluded
In the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier, the USA Women’s team dominated against Canada, Brazil, and Argentina, winning all six of their matches in the double round-robin format to secure their spot in the Global Qualifier.
The Americas Qualifier took place right in the heart of Southern California, at Woodley Park Cricket Complex in Van Nuys, CA.
Since the inception of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2013, USA has qualified and taken part twice, and this will be their third appearance in the event.
East Asia Pacific Qualifier – Concluded
The East Asia Pacific Qualifier saw Vanuatu securing their first-ever win at an ICC Women’s Pathway Event with an impressive six victories in six matches.

In the Asia region, the road to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup began with a spirited showdown in the Division 2 Qualifier. Eleven teams clashed in a gripping round-robin format, with the UAE, Nepal, Thailand, and Hong Kong emerging as the standout performers and securing their passage to the thrilling knockout stage.

In the knockout stage, the United Arab Emirates and Thailand emerged as the top two teams, with the UAE remaining unbeaten to claim the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2023 trophy. Both teams will go on to play in the Global Qualifier.
Europe Qualifier – Concluded

This year, the women’s cricket world cup qualification pathway in the Europe region was expanded with a brand new second division. Jersey hosted the Division 2 stage of the tournament, which featured six teams competing in a round-robin format. Italy and France knocked out Jersey, Germany, Sweden, and Turkey, thus earning their place against Scotland and the Netherlands in Division 1.

The Europe Qualifier then witnessed the Netherlands and Scotland securing their Global Qualifier spots against Italy and France in a double round-robin format. Though Scotland and the Netherlands ended with equal points, Scotland clinched the event’s top spot with a higher net run rate.
Africa Qualifier – Upcoming – December 1-8, 2023

The last two slots for the Global Qualifier will come from the Africa Qualifier. The Division 2 Qualifier stage of the tournament took place in September and featured eight African teams competing in a round-robin format in two groups. The top two from each group advanced to the playoffs.

In the playoffs, Botswana and Kenya emerged as the top two contenders, advancing to the Division 1 qualifier scheduled in Uganda from December 1 to 8, 2023. They will play a pool that includes Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
Women’s Cricket t20 World Cup Global Qualifier
These eight teams from the five regions, along with Ireland and Sri Lanka, who finished as the last two in the 2023 World Cup, will compete in the Global Qualifier. The winner and runner-up from the Global Qualifier will earn the coveted opportunity to participate in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Although the dates and venues for the Global Qualifiers are yet to be announced, anticipation for the competition is already building, and SoCal Women’s Cricket Association will be following all the action.
